Fall Colours

I love the fall, it is a second spring when every leaf is a flower - according to Albert Camus anyway. I certainly agree with him - the splash of colour is something else. In the northern Boreal forest where I live, we get mostly yellows from hardwood species like birch and poplar but we have a few maples that turn red. The reds and oranges are my favourites and many of the smaller bushes, vines and floor plants turn orange or red.

It was a beautiful day for mid-October yesterday at 24 Celsius which is crazy! My son Matthew and I took a drive to Rushing River Park and down the Dryberry Lake access road in search of fall colours.

New Kitchen Reno

Any experienced husband knows making your wife happy is usually a good thing. My wife is the main cook in the house and wanted the kitchen renovated. Well several months and $35K later this is the outcome:

Super Moon Lunar Eclipse

Well we had a great view of the super moon lunar eclipse, 9/27/2015. Living up further north than most we had crystal clear skies and minimal light pollution. Here's some pics I took before, during and after.

Camping on Lake of the Woods

Well I had a fun summer for the most part, spent 6 full weeks at the camper on beautiful Lake of the Woods in Ontario's Sunset Country. This is a magnificent lake that is loaded with 7 species of fish and has wildlife all along its shores. There are 14, 522 islands on this lake! if you add up the shoreline distance of the islands and the main lake shore, then Lake of the Woods has more shoreline than Lake Superior!

I recommend the lake as a vacation destination to anybody who loves camping, nature, fishing, boating and being outdoors.
